~McCurdy Plantation Horses~
It had always been my
dream to raise horses. After we bought a couple of trail riding geldings
in the spring of 2000, I decided I wanted a mare. I wasn't sure what
breed, so I went on a search. My husband handed me an article about
McCurdy Plantation Horses he had read in the American Field. I
started an online search and found the association's website and their
for sale page. That's where I saw my first mare, Rose. I contacted her
breeder, Grey Till, and the rest is, as they say, is history.
The McCurdy horses were just what I wanted. They were bred to be
versatile mounts with wonderful endurance and big hearts. I trust their
smooth, steady gait to take me over the rough terrain we ride during
field trials or out trail riding. What we do requires stamina and a
calm, willing attitude. They love to be with us and are such a joy.
I've also been blessed to meet so many wonderful horse loving people
through the association. When talking to many McCurdy breeders, I've
found that if they don't have what you are looking for, they'll sure
help you find someone who does. They all have a love for these horses
and want to work towards the preservation of this breed. I hope I'm able
to help in some small way.

McCurdy's Iron Rebel |
MPH & TWH registered
McCurdy's Iron Little Man X Steel Blue
DOB: 7-31-03
Rebel
came home with us as a yearling after attending the first McCurdy
Plantation Horse Production Sale. At that time, we only had a mare and a filly but we decided it was
time to think about having a stallion. When Rebel came out, we got in a
bidding war. We're so happy we got him.
Rebel is teaching me so much about living with a stallion. He is very
forgiving because I've made lots of mistakes. I still consider myself
very much a novice when it comes to horses and owning a stallion has
been an incredible part of my horse journey. Rebel and I are taking
weekly lessons together and we are learning so much as a team. He's fun
to ride and a very willing partner. Rebel has a wonderfully smooth gait
and lots of endurance. He's a "goey" kind of horse and I love his spirit
and intelligence. Thanks, Tammy Mason, of Bentoak Farm!!! And, Logan
Mason, for starting Rebel off right!!!

Strawberry McCurdy Rose |
MPH registered
Roy's Doc McCurdy X Till's Lady McCurdy
DOB: 4-19-96
Rose is the first McCurdy
horse to grace our home. In 2000 I read an article about the McCurdy
horses in the American Field and started my search. I found the
association website and saw Rose listed for sale. It was love at first
site. I called Grey Till and asked a ton of questions about the breed.
He patiently answered them all. My husband and I drove down to Alabama
to meet Grey and Rose. I took her for a ride and she came home with us
that day. (I knew I wanted her before we even got there).
Rose has blessed us with 3 wonderful foals. Two of them are our current
field trial horses and I'm eager for the day I can ride the foal she
gave us last year. Rose is a classic McCurdy mare. She has the smooth
unfaltering gait and stamina the breed is known for, along with
intelligence and spunk. Her hooves are rock hard and she's always been
an easy keeper. She's a very special mare and we look forward to her
foal by Rebel coming in the spring of 2008. Thanks, Grey!

Maggie's Flashy Pride |
MPH registered
Go Boy McCurdy X Maggie Mae
DOB: 5-23-03
Maggie
is responsible for us buying three yearlings at the first McCurdy
Plantation Horse Production Sale. We drove 5 hours to the event to meet
other breeders, association members, and stallions with no intention of
buying any horses. We had no horse trailer with us. When the auction
started, Maggie was the third one to come out and my husband started
bidding. I thought he'd lost his mind. By the time it was over, we had
three yearlings to get back to Ky. These McCurdy horses are addictive!!!
Maggie is a wonderful example of this breed. She's gorgeous with
incredible endurance. She's very sweet and personable. Maggie loves
attention and she has the presence to demand it! We're very excited
about her and Rebel's foal due in spring of 2008! Thanks, Larry and
Pennie Lolley!
